Comme tous les matins, Jean prend la mer avec son chien Achab. En chemin vers son esquif, la belle Marie l'interpelle timidement, puis lui réclame du thon pour de riches clients. Sachant que les bancs sont éloignés en cette saison, elle lui promet une importante récompense en échange. Voulant faire bonne figure, il entreprend le voyage malgré les risques d'intempéries annoncés par le vent d'ouest... -- Un court roman d'aventures en mer, intimiste et chargé d'émotions, reprenant un conte transmis par le grand-père de l'auteur, lui conférant de belles images, intenses et dramatiques, et lui ajoutant plus de substance en illustrant le lien qui unit le marin à son chien. Le conte original précède celui de Perro, tandis que suivent un commentaire sur le conte, l'exergue (ou épigraphe), la chronologie du récit, le schéma narratif ainsi qu'une présentation d'un court extrait du roman ##Moby Dick## de Melville dont l'auteur s'est inspiré en partie.
